Product Brief: Bently Nevada 330180-92-05 (3300 XL Proximitor Sensor)
The 330180-92-05 is a Proximitor Sensor (also known as a driver or conditioner) for the Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8mm Proximity Probe System. This device is the electronic interface between the 3300 XL 8mm proximity probe and the monitoring system (e.g., 3500 series, 1900 series, or third-party PLC/DCS with analog inputs). It provides oscillator excitation to the probe, demodulates the eddy current signal, and outputs a linear DC voltage proportional to probe-to-target gap.
The suffix -92-05 indicates a standard Proximitor with a terminal block connection (as opposed to BNC) and a panel mount / DIN rail mounting configuration.
Part Number Breakdown

Key Features
Provides RF excitation to the 3300 XL 8mm proximity probe.
Demodulates eddy current signal – outputs linear DC voltage proportional to gap.
Terminal block connection (suffix 92) – accepts stripped probe cable leads (no BNC required).
Panel or DIN rail mountable – flexible installation in junction boxes, cabinets, or panels.
Sealed, rugged enclosure – IP67 rated for harsh industrial environments.
Wide temperature range – suitable for outdoor or high-ambient installations.
Compatible with all 3300 XL 8mm probes and extension cables.

Application Scenarios (use cases)
| Application Area | Description |
|---|---|
| Steam Turbine Junction Box | Mounted in field junction box near turbine, connects to 8mm probes via terminal block; outputs to 3500 rack in control room. |
| Gas Turbine Compressor Monitoring | Installed in panel on compressor skid; accepts probe input via terminal block – eliminates BNC connectors (more reliable in vibration). |
| Centrifugal Compressor Retrofit | Replaces older 7200 series Proximitors with terminal block version for easier field rewiring. |
| API 670 Compliant Machinery Trains | Terminal block version preferred for installations requiring sealed, weatherproof connections in harsh environments. |
| Offshore Platform Machinery | IP67 rating + terminal block (no BNC) provides better corrosion resistance than connectorized versions. |
| Hydro Turbine Pit Installation | Mounted in damp environments; terminal block allows sealed conduit entry for probe cables. |
| Test Stand / R&D Lab | DIN rail mounted in instrumentation rack; accepts probe inputs from multiple test points. |
| Retrofit to PLC/DCS (without monitor) | Proximitor output (-0.8 to -22 VDC) scaled to PLC analog input card (0–10 VDC after level shifting). |
Notes
330180-92-05 is the Proximitor only – it does NOT include the probe or cable. You must order the probe (e.g., 330171-00-08-10-02-00) and/or extension cable (330190-X0-00) separately.
Terminal block connections (suffix 92) require stripping the probe cable shield and center conductor – no BNC connector is used.
Wiring – Terminal Block Pinout (typical):
| Terminal | Signal |
|---|---|
| 1 | Probe center conductor (+) |
| 2 | Probe shield / common (-) |
| 3 | Power negative (-24 VDC input) |
| 4 | Signal output (-0.8 to -22 VDC) |
| 5 | Power common (+24 VDC return / GND) |
DIN rail adapter available separately (part number 3300 XL DIN mounting clip).
For hazardous area (Class I, Div 1/Zone 1) installations, use 3300 XL Intrinsically Safe (IS) Proximitor (different part number) or install external IS barriers between probe and Proximitor.
Maximum total cable length from probe tip to Proximitor = 305 m (1000 ft) including probe integral cable and any extension cable.
Output voltage polarity is negative (more negative as gap increases). Most monitors (e.g., 3500/40, 3500/42) accept this directly. For PLCs requiring positive voltage, use a signal conditioner (e.g., Bently Nevada 135489-01).
